January House Construction Final; and Next Step May Update
Well it has been a number of weeks since we last posted. So I think an update is in order. As you can see from the picture to the right (taken in January), we have all the windows and doors installed, and for time being, the house is buttoned up.
So what's next? Well we decided to bite the bullet and apply for a “new construction loan” and finish the house so we can get out there. Trying to maintain two houses has become a chore and it seems at times that we spend less time at our farm now that we are in Ohio, then when we were commuting from Virginia.
For the last month we have been meeting with a variety of sub-contractors to install the roof, siding, gutters, heating, plumbing, electrical, to name a few, in order to present our plan to the bank. So hopefully by next month we can get construction underway.
I’ll post accordingly, but there are a couple of facets of this I will try to highlight, such as the outdoor wood burner we will have tied into to our heating system, it seems kind of relevant to discuss this with the high cost of conventional heating; and our “rural water purification system” which will include a cement cast cistern with pump house built over top that will contain our filtration system. So hopefully someone out there might gain a little from our work and research.
