The Basement

The basement in the house is really a cold cellar that was added on the house shortly after the house was built on to the extra room. (the rst of the house is support on sandstone blocks with a crawl space.) The wall was removed and a stairwell was constructed to get into the cellar. When the picture was taken we had our water pump and pressure tank, water heater, and floor mounted propane heater contained in the cellar. The contractors have removed everything from the basement and we plan to build a bulkhead and stairwell to enter from the outside so we have more room in the new kitchen.
We’ll be replacing the pump and water heater, plus adding a filter and chlorination system to clean the water from the well. We’ll also add another pump that will pump water from the cistern for outside and grey-water usage. We have fairly good size cistern that is used to collect the rain water, so we’ll definitely take advantage of this.
The foundation is made of sandstone blocks, which are going to have to be re-tucked with mortar.
